My name is Jean McDonald and I have 3 grown up children, a boy and 2
girls. My husband sadly died of a heart attack at the tender age of 35 several years ago.
I have recently moved to Surrey to be closer to my family and holiday rental. I was born in Yorkshire and spent many years in Lincolnshire and a few years in Hertfordshire.
I have a brother who lives in north Lincolnshire who followed in our father’s foot steps and went into banking.
I get great satisfaction out of helping people whenever I can and spent many years on the PTA when my children were at school.
After the death of my husband I joined CRUSE bereavement organisation and then studied to gain a Diploma in Counselling. That led me to becoming a voluntary counsellor with Victim Support for many years.
I am a fan of self development and always striving to find something new to learn. This has included becoming computer literate, gaining a diploma as a Life Coach, and latterly about working online which I think has been my biggest challenge with so much to learn in an ever changing environment.
For fourteen years I had a second home in a rural part of France not far from Bordeaux. I really loved the lifestyle, food and of course the wine over there!
My hobbies include gardening, golf, music – jazz and pop, theatre, dining out and yoga.
My Working Life
In the main my working life has been in Sales and Marketing.
In my working life I began by working as a florist in Cheltenham.
I then worked for a blue chip company for 7 years in sales and promotion travelling all over the country and later working a specific area until I married.
When my husband died I continued running his business but it was technically orientated and I did not have the knowledge to carry it forward. My expertise is in administration so I had to give it up.
While the children were at school I did part time work in a bank, as a merchandiser and a mystery shopper.
On moving to Hertfordshire I worked as a temp doing administration and then found a job in a local golf club where I was employed to do multiple tasks.
For several years now I have worked for myself which I find most rewarding.
Theoretically I should now be retired but I prefer to be kept busy with all my business interests.
